My First Korean Skin Care Experience: Saranghae's 5 Step Routine

For years, my wise momma has preached to me the importance of a proper skincare regimen.

"You should wash your face twice a day, but at the least before you go to bed at night!"
"You're never too young to start!
You have to stay ahead of the aging process with good skincare."
"Sunscreen, Chrissy. Sunscreen!"

Allow me to say that my momma looks fabulous and it's hard to guess her age. So, I'd like to tell you that I've always adhered to her nuggets of anti-aging wisdom but, in all honesty, I've got more excuses than consistency. After a long day of homeschooling, driving around teens, laundry, dinner and so on, all I want to do is drop into the bed.

Furthermore, and here's where I get real, I battled cystic acne in my late teens and early adult years that left plenty of battle scars. So sometimes, I "give up" on skincare. "What's the point?" I'd think to myself. "Nothing makes a difference. I'll always have...blah, blah, blah." (I promise this is not a pity-party post - hold on tight!)

However, there are times when my skin looks well-hydrated, smooth-for-me and overall healthier; which I believe draws attention away from the scars. So this begs the question: why not stick to a routine?? I don't know! Why don't I exercise daily when I know I feel better and it's better for me?

Now let's get back to Saranghae...

In December, their marketing department contacted me and invited me to try their skin care products...

With no prior experience or knowledge of Korean skincare, I hopped over to their site to learn more. I read about their innovative technology, natural and rare ingredients indigenous to Korea, as well as their claims for healing, regenerating and protecting the skin. Though they don't promise an overnight miracle, I got the impression that they are passionate about optimal skin health which results in a glowing complexion and regeneration for the long haul.

Their ingredients for each product are proudly displayed and easily found on their website!  Apparently, they are the fastest growing Korean skincare company here in the US. But don't let that deceive you into thinking they just threw themselves together. Saranghae has been in Korea for 11 years.

Pleased with what I found on their website, I began reading reviews and watching product user's videos. (I'm linking two reviews at the end of this post from bloggers I follow and respect. Be sure to check them out!)

My interest was peaked, so I excitedly agreed to try this 5-step skincare line and eagerly awaited for my package to come!

Instagram Stories are my jam!
"Every love story is beautiful, but ours is my favorite."

I opened the box and I couldn't be more pleased. The navy blue and silver boxes screamed elegance and set the stage for the gorgeous glass bottles. As promised, there were 5 different products awaiting for me to use: an oil + foam cleaner, a radiance essence + serum, a moisturizer,  an eye cream and a pack of essence Korean sheet masks.

First, I'm going to briefly breakdown each product. Then, I shall close with highlights of changes I've noticed to my skin. However, before we delve in, allow me to proudly state that I have used this product EVERYDAY, twice a day, with the exception of one morning. Can we please take a moment to celebrate that??

What are they?

The Oil + Foaming Cleanser - Step 1

The cleanser is a nourishing moisturizer with unique ingredients such as truffle extract and gold. What!?  Is it 14k or 18k gold? I should ask them (wink. wink.).  Anyway, the oil is your deep cleansing agent while the foamy cleanser gets in there to remove dirt, makeup and even toxins. In addition, there are botanical essential oils to nourish and heal the skin. I'm not scientifically minded but this sounds fabulous!

I love this cleanser! You rub it onto your skin when it is DRY. Perhaps this is why I just go for it each morning and each night. I walk into the bathroom, pump once for a quarter size amount, and rub it around my face. At this point, there's no going back so I wet my fingertips and watch the foaming magic begin.  Some nights I take my time and massage the day away.

The foamy lather feels so nice and cleans beautifully, completely removing my makeup and leaving my skin feeling moisturized. I gently cleanse around my closed eyes and say bye to eyeliner and mascara.  I can honestly say I look forward to cleansing my face. In fact, the other night I fell asleep early in my jeans and all. When I woke up at 1:00 am, I got up and washed my face. For real. Did I mention that I love this cleanser??

The Essence +  Serum - Step 2

This serum combines two Korean skincare steps into one! It's a cocktail of plant based placenta, collagen, elastin and hylauronic acid to name a few. The serum's mission is to heal the skin and make it regenerate all day long.

Now that the face is clean I use 1-2 pumps of the serum. Pictured is a generous amount, more than enough to cover my face and neck.  It smells clean, leaves my face feeling smooth and my skin looking bright. Step 2 is done before I know it.

I usually give this a couple of minutes to set in, so I either brush my teeth, pick out an outfit, or whatever to busy myself in-between.

The Restorative Creme - Step 3

Moisturize - Hydrate - Rejuvenate

Firms and lifts? Yes, please!  This rejuvenation cream was recently featured in Allure magazine for it's nourishing powers for all skin types. :) It is also about regenerating the health of your skin. Some of the active ingredients are ginseng and more mushroom extract - must be good stuff!!

The natural, opaque colored cream goes on smooth and leaves your face feeling amply moisturized and supple, rather oily or heavy.

Focus Renewal Eye Cream - Step 4

This rivals the cleanser on my favorites list. I've actually noticed a brightening under my eyes and find myself adding concealer more for hiding blue veins than dark circles!

The Sheet MASK - Step 5

Last, but not least, we have the essence mask!  Though the mask is considered to be step 5, it's not used on a daily basis. Saranghae recommends applying the mask once or twice a week and to use it following step 1. (In other words, when you use the mask, skip steps 2-4.)

Again, this is my first time trying a Korean mask so I didn't know what to expect. Tearing into the package I held my breath, reached in and gently pulled out the paper-like, cool to the touch "mask". The mask dipped in moisturizing goodness easily unfolds into a flat sheet ready to be laid across your face.

You leave it on for 15-20 minutes, remove it and then toss it into the trash. The remaining moisturizing goodness can be reserved for another treatment the next day.

I've enjoyed my adventure with this skin care routine; especially the laughs I had at my children's expense over their reactions to me in a sheet mask.  I enjoy having the confidence of feeling good in my skin. ;) Lastly, I LOVE that I've developed a daily, anti-aging skin care regimen that's all about healthy, luminous skin that somehow makes my smile bigger and my eyes sparkle.

"Saranghae means I love you"
*Final Observations

Saranghae reccomends that you give the products 30 days to heal, regenerate and protect. Today marks 33 days of consistent, daily use! Here's what I've noticed:
  • The dark circles under my eyes have decreased dramatically as well as the puffiness I've long grown accustomed to.
  • My skin has an overall healthier glow.
  • It feels smooth, soft and supple.
  • There's a diminishing of my forehead creases AND my smile lines.
  • Most days my only foundation is a CC cream
  • My makeup goes on smooth
  • I still have plenty of products left!!
Also, I wanted to add links to a couple of bloggers that I've been following for some time. I respect  their opinions and they happen to use these skin care products!

Lastly, Saranghae offers a 30 day money back guarantee, free shipping and great quality service!

  2. Nice job Chrissy and congratulations on getting the happy mail!!! I love it! You are adorable and your pic with the sheet mask on was super cute and funny. Skin care is super important good thing your momma instilled that in you. Consistency is key, I've learned that as I've gotten older. Now that I'm more consistent I like my skin so much better than when I was younger - crazy, huh?

    1. I believe that! When I was younger I didn't think washing my face every night AND morning was necessary. Especially in the morning! I just washed my face before bed, what could I possibly have done to dirty my face while sleeping. Honestly, I still don't fully get it but I'm sticking with the routine...I'm there now! Thank you Kellyann for reading and commenting. You truly are the best!
