The Holiday Series: Wedding Looks

When you were a little girl did you ever dream of a December wedding? If so, what did you picture? Glitter, sparkle, furs and maybe even snow? Snow! If I had gotten this outfit together over the weekend, my backdrop would be a beautiful landscape of white. Instead I bring you this next segment of the Holiday Series, hosted by Ada at Elegance and Mommyhood, with a patchy, dying lawn. My plan "B" is to distract you with my red nose, awkward smile and rigid poses from the freezing cold!

( Miss the previous posts? Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Holiday Home Tour features!)

Is it working? Good. Then please humor me in my attempt to do this dress and top justice. I did say dress. The dress was a fall clearance find at WHBM and I've only worn it once. That just won't do, so to make it work (well, sort of work) for winter, I added the sweater top, also from WHBM. But is the elegant top enough to pull this look off for a wedding? I think the venue may determine one way or the other, so I'm going with it - only someone loan me their fur coat!!

This ruffle, sheer-sleeved top is from our annual Christmas shopping day with my MIL and SIL. It's beautiful and I couldn't wait for an excuse to wear it (as if I need one!). Oh goodness, I sure hope that these ruffles don't go crazy once washed! You know what I'm talking about don't you? Some ruffle tops are incorrigible even under the firm application of a hot iron. Time will tell won't it?

For the final touches, I added this gold statement necklace and studs.

Here's a closer look at the print and colors in the dress...

I also wanted to see what this outfit would look like with this cast-off, velvet blazer from a friend.

What do you think? Too casual with the blazer? I need that fur vest or coat! ;) Well, my friends I just know you are going to love the looks styled by the other bloggers in this collaboration. as much as I do! :)

Outfit Breakdown:
Floral Dress: White House Black Market (Last One)/Ruffle Top: WHBM (Similar)/Velvet Shoes: Chicos Warehouse (Amazon Option)/ Statement Necklace: Premier Designs (Going Glam)/Shine Bright Studs: Premier Designs

Kellyann: "This time of year I am reaching for something with a little glamour yet comfortable.  This faux wrap dress in black is a classic piece but by adding a fun statement necklace and my short leopard coat I've added a little glamour."

Kristin:  "Would you guess that two of the items in my winter wedding look are secondhand? This black and white printed dress and coat are both thrifted! I'm talking about where I thrift in my post as well as my aversion to tights... I don't care how cold it is, if I have the choice I'll take my chances with bare legs!"

Whitney: "I'm not actually attending any weddings this season.  If I were, I probably would have wanted to buy a pretty, new holiday dress.  But instead, this post was a good exercise in wardrobe remixing!"

Chrissy: "When I think “Christmas wedding” I think silvers, blacks, reds etc, but I couldn’t resist going with this deep burgundy, ruffle top and floral skirt. These colors are everywhere right now!"

Ada: "A little black dress in velvet is the perfect dress to wear for a December Wedding since it is the Holiday season. Velvet is the IT Material of the season - so rich, elegant, dressy and beautiful. I love that this dress is in a midi length which makes it Wintery and for a pop of color I chose a coral python clutch, blush velvet pumps with a blush pink lace choker and red lipstick. I'd also wear this elegant floral kimono jacket over the dress to keep myself warm and layers are a must for a Winter Wedding or Holiday Party."

Monica: "I hope everyone is enjoying their holiday season before.  As always, thanks Ada for the fun collab!  Today I've decided that for a holiday wedding I want to be comfortable and wear pants.  I paired the pants with a fun pearl top."

Linda: "Going for a Winter Wedding on New Years Look: Heels to start off for the  more traditional look and of course a great pair of chucks for dancing into the night. I do have a shawl I will wear to cover my shoulders but heck, how fun is this amazing sequin dress from Charlotte Russe paired with J Crew Pumps or black converse."

Jennie - "A black jumpsuit is an elegant look perfect for weddings, especially in winter when you also want to stay warm. Topping it off with a bit of sparkle makes it perfectly festive for the season!"

Christine: "What I love most about this silver metallic pleated skirt is the fit and how flowy it is. This is such an elegant and chic outfit to wear to a Holiday Winter Wedding. Simply dress it up with a black satin camisole, fishnet tights, classic black pumps and layer your favorite winter coat et voila!"

Shelbee: "For my winter wedding outfit, I went for more of a dressy casual look with layered little black dresses: a button front shirt dress over a body con dress.  I kept my accessories simple with a gold link floral necklace and a black clutch. Then I let my bright pink heeled loafers be the statement.  My feeling is you can never go wrong with a little black dress and some fabulous shoes for just about any occasion!"

  3. I don't think this is too casual. I love love your dress and blouse. You fooled me that it was a dress. You know I love WHBM and on my wedding post today you will see that two of my accessories are from there. Also, on a Holiday note I love the touches of deep red/burgundy and green that your outfit has head to toe. Those shoes are gorgeous, too.

I am so glad you are a part of The Holiday Series my friend and I cannot wait to see the final two outfits you style for The Holiday Series!! I will e-mail you soon! With that said, stop by to see my last two posts both featuring velvet - by me of course and by Miss Vivian, too. Thanks Chrissy.

  4. Chrissy, the blazer is amazing! I would wear it with everything from jeans to dresses all the time! I love that you layered the sweater over your dress to get more wear from the dress. And the colors are beautiful! Your shoes are killer, too. Such a fabulous look, my friend! Another fun collaboration! I am looking forward to the next one!

    1. Oh! I didn't even notice how the dress makes the ring look green in color. It's actually rose gold and "diamond" (lol). The ring is a design by Premier. I forgot to link it so thank you for bringing it to my attention. :)
